Greenfeast Peas — also known as Pisum sativum — are a popular, reliable variety of shelling peas. They produce sweet, plump peas in well-filled pods, usually containing about 7–9 peas each. The plants typically grow to about 60–90 cm tall and have a bushy, compact habit, making them ideal for small gardens or container growing.
Planting Time
Sow in early spring or autumn (depending on your climate).
They prefer cool weather and can tolerate light frosts.
Location & Soil
Choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil.
Peas prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0–7.0).
Enrich the soil with compost or aged manure before planting.
Sowing
Direct sow seeds 2–3 cm deep and 5–7 cm apart.
Space rows about 45 cm apart.
No need to pre-soak the seeds, but you can for faster germination.
Watering
Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Water deeply once or twice a week, depending on the weather.
Support
While they're bush peas, they still benefit from light support like small trellises or stakes to keep them off the ground.
Care
Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers — peas fix their own nitrogen from the air.
Harvest
Ready for harvest in about 10–12 weeks.
Pick pods when they are plump but still bright green for the sweetest flavour.
Regular picking encourages more pods to grow.
Companion Planting
Plant with carrots, radishes, or lettuce.
Avoid onions and garlic, as they can stunt pea growth.
