How to Grow Bull’s Blood Microgreens
You Will Need
Shallow tray (3–5 cm deep) with drainage
Fine seedling mix, coco coir, or a light potting mix
Spray bottle or bottom watering tray
Bull’s Blood beetroot seeds (pre-soaking optional)
Sowing Instructions
Fill tray with moistened growing medium to a depth of 3–4 cm.
Evenly scatter seeds across the surface. They can be sown densely.
Lightly press seeds into the surface. Optionally cover with a very thin layer of soil or vermiculite (1–2 mm).
Mist well to moisten, and cover tray with a lid or another tray to create a blackout period for 3–4 days.
Tip: Soak beetroot seeds for 6–8 hours before sowing to speed up germination.
After Germination
Once most seeds have sprouted (3–5 days), remove the cover.
Place tray under bright indirect sunlight or grow lights.
Provide 12–16 hours of light daily for strong colour and healthy growth.
Watering
Mist daily, or better yet, use bottom watering to prevent fungal issues and keep stems upright.
Do not overwater — maintain consistent, gentle moisture.
Harvesting
Ready in 10–16 days when microgreens reach 5–8 cm in height.
Harvest when leaves show deep burgundy tones and true leaves just begin to form.
Cut above the soil with sharp scissors or a knife.
Storage
Gently rinse and dry before storing.
Keep in a sealed container in the fridge; best used within 3–5 days.
